Mission:
Sole Survivor
Location: USS Valkyrie
Timeline: MD 02 - 1530
Following his meeting with the XO Hobbes went to his quarters to unpack before finishing his check in. It was a simple matter to call for his things, unpack the crate and have the crate beamed away. Clothing was either hung up or put in drawers.
On the shelves he arranged a few mementos from his family and clan, a few grooming aids for his fur and claws, but center to all was his flight helmet from his days as a fighter pilot. the white helmet had his call sign across the front and an anthropomorphized cartoon tiger on either side wearing a scarf.
Stepping back he nodded approvingly before grabbing a padd and headed out to checkout the flight deck by way of medical. once in the corridor he picked up a familiar scent and sniffed the air briefly. Shaking his head followed by an audible, "Nahhhh...", he went about his tasks.
The stop in Sickbay, or the 'Medical Center' as the staff referred to it was quick enough. They transferred his medical records and update things with a quick scan and sent him on his way. After that it was a quick turbolift rid to the shuttle bay to look over things first hand.
Walking into the large bay he felt at home, especially after his time aboard the Nova class Aurora. He strolled the main level looking up to the bay's operations center. The port and starboard elevators were clear but next to them a Volga class runabout stood at the ready as did a type-11 shuttle. Along the back of the bay an Argo Class and several type-9 shuttles were berthed. Taking a personnel lift to the lower level. several work pods were berth until needed, as were the rest of the Valkyrie's shuttles. The elevator to the ship's landing platform was empty but beyond it a Flyer and another type-9 were in place before the smaller set of exterior doors to the lower bay area.
After returning to the main bay he stood there looking around approvingly as a Master Chief handed a padd of to a member of the deck crew before making his way over. "Can I help you Lieutenant?"
"Thank you Master Chief not right now, just...getting a feel for the bay. It's been a while since I've been on a real flight deck."
The Chief looked the officer appraisingly. "Your a fighter pilot."
Hobbes' head, slightly cocked, twisted towards the Chief.
Laughing he extended a hand, "When you've done this as long as I have you can tell. I'm Master Chief Wells, Chief of the deck."
Taking the mans hand. "Lieutenant M'Tala...Hobbes. Chief of Flight Ops."
"Well at least we have a real pilot running things. There was a pool going as to the kinda Department Head we were going to get."
"Well I hate micro managing but...", looking around, "...don't tell folk who I am and put me down in that pool."
Wells laughed out loud. "We are gonna get along great sir I can tell."
Over the next few minutes he met the rest of those on duty, he laid out his ideas and listened to Wells and the rest of the deck crew and settled on a blend that everyone seemed happy with. Before heading out heading out he scheduled a departmental meeting so he could speak with everyone. He had a good feeling about things and he began to wander the ship to check out the various facilities and according the the layout on his padd he was nearing the Valhalla Lounge when he could that familiar scent again.
Stopping in his tracks he sniffed the air again, but this time he followed the scent. Entering the lounge he looked about, near the portal he saw a familiar shape. Stepping to the side to confirm his suspicions he shook his head, continuing around the edge he made his way along the tables near the window until he came up to his former shipmate. "I didn't think I would have run into you so soon?"
Adana's cup of tea stopped halfway to her lips, her eyes shifting to confirm the identity of the voice. "Hobbes?" Her face lit up as she sat her beverage down and stood to greet her friend and former shipmate. "When did you... how..." she stammered, uncharacteristically at a loss for words, but thrilled to see him nonetheless.
Hobbes couldn't help but laugh at the stammer response. "Well the is a first time for everything! Hahahah... She had almost been a mirror image of their former CO and to see her tongue tied was almost too much. He recovered quick enough to not make he feel self-conscious but it would be hard to forget. "I had applied for the Chief billet on the Valkyrie and did a remote interview with the Captain...which was different. Then met them here. Their arrival 12 hours ahead of schedule was a surprise though.
"How about you?"
Gesturing to the seat across from her, Adana sat back down. "Pretty much the exact same story. Including the early arrival... you know me, I was ready, but I felt a bit flustered. Not entirely sure I made the best first impression." She sipped her tea shaking her head at the recollection, but her smile quickly returned. "But look at you, Mr. Chief Flight Control. Congratulations, you've more than earned a department head position. Just don't let it go to your head, that's big enough already." A quick wink punctuated her playful teasing.
Taking the seat he chuckled at her ribbing. Striking a profiled pose, "Of course it is...it has to be able to hold my superiors skills and intellect."
"Then what's taking up all the extra room?" she challenged, cocking an eyebrow. The truth was, Hobbes was one of the few pilots she trusted. Truly, deeply trusted. He was one of only a handful she'd ever discussed her birth parents with... specifically, the accident that had taken their lives. Knowing he would be at the helm during red alert lifted a burden from her shoulders she hadn't realized had resettled upon arrival on the new ship.
"How's your family? I don't suppose you had the chance to see any of them before arriving at the Starbase?"
He shook his head as a waitress came over to see if he needed anything. "See, no. But I did manage to speak to my father and get an update on everyone's status. The clan as a whole is well. My bothers and sisters are all involved in one thing or another. I won't bore you by listing off what everyone's up to ...unless you wanna hear?"
"I wouldn't have asked if I didn't," Adana chided. "But you can hit the highlights if you'd like."
"How did I know you were going to say that. Okay, as for my brothers...R'Tuaw was recent promoted to Captain and is in command of a Marine detachment aboard the USS John Adams; Hrorri is recovering from a skiing accident on the Denubian Alps...probably deserved it to...he always was a show off; P'Rulish is still on Cait and serving as the assistant to the regional magistrate; Csusar was assigned to the task force still monitoring Kzinti Prime; Sr'iras is still milking having been the runt of the litter is still at home, but at least helping my father in the shop.
"My sister's well..." that gets a bit dramatic. H'Niss is still stirring the pot...any pot. If there is a cause she's working for it. Kroia & Kriri had been in Starfleet but both Kroia became an exotic dancer and Kriri is now a body guard for some Bajoran Merchant; but P'Mila, always father's favorite, she is to be joined to her adolescent sweet heart after he gets back from some diplomatic errand to Betazed."
Adana chuckled. "At least everyone's keeping busy." She finished her tea, set the cup on the saucer, and stood. "I hate to cut our reunion short, but I've got more to do than time to do it. I'm really glad you're here. Maybe we can have dinner soon?"
Standing as she moved to leave. "Sure thing. See you tomorrow morning." He watched her leave and turned to get his first good look at the lounge. ~Heck of a lot more upscale than the typical lounge that's for sure.~ He retook his seat as he caught the eye of and gestured to one of the wait staff. Since he was here he might as well get something to eat."
