Mission:
Sole Survivor
Location: Observation Lounge
Timeline: MD 16 - 1700
Jerome made his way to the observation lounge. The Captain had called him down stating that there were various moves that needed to be discussed. The Valkyrie had quite a bit happening lately and he honestly had no idea that a First Officer did so much running around. Pressing the chime, he waited to be called in.
Daegan was sitting in the observation lounge, between the ready and conference rooms, as the warped to the Pricari home world when the chime sounded. Having left the partition open he leaned forward and with a little extra volume he called out. "Enter."
Entering the room, Hunt found the Daegan sitting. Scanning around the room, he realized that there was still much of the ship that he hadn't seen yet. The observation lounge being one of this places. "You wanted to see me Captain?"
Standing Daegan gestured his exec into the lounge. "Yes, sit please. It's been rather all go not quit lately. So while we have a bit of a breather, before the next round, I thought we could talk." Before retaking his seat, "Oh...can I get you anything?"
"No thank you." Jerome pulled out the seat next to the Captain's seat which was at the head of the table.
Taking a drink from his iced sweet tea, "So what do you think of all of this?"
"To be honest, I am little nervous about the whole visiting an infected world. Especially regarding the fact that a cure was never discovered as far as a I know."
"Agreed. We will have to take every precaution. Even though he said it was only spread by direct contact, it has been suggested that it could have been a mass hallucination that pit the population against the one another. But speculation is just that, speculation. However a full security team, in addition to the rest of the away team wouldn't hurt."
"How many security personnel are you suggesting?"
"I would think one for each member of the away team would be sufficient. But that all depends on the conditions we find when re arrive so I will leave that up to you. Oh, how is your wife and family settling in?"
"Talon is settling into Tactical while taking it upon herself to get the kids in order. Insists that I focus on my role as First Officer. But I feel like I should be doing more regarding getting the children settled. Those three can be a handful at times."
Remembering that time with his own children and a oddly familiar situation he couldn't help but smile. "Well you could always pull rank...I mean you are the XO."
"Going to let myself settle into the position for a few days, before I begin doing that."
"That and 'pulling rank' on the wife never works out well.
"Not at all," Jerome responded as he laughed. "How have you managed?"
Chuckling himself. "That is the question isn't...not without casualties that's for sure. You?"
"A losing battle on a consistent basis, " Jerome burst out laughing.
as the pair laughed. "Seems to be a universal constant doesn't it? Got even worse as my daughter got older. The last few years before she left for the Academy I was effectively double team. Quite regularly too. ...so look out."
"Has your daughter graduated from the Academy yet?"
"Oh yes. Class of 99. She was posted to the USS Ganymede as their helm officer. I've never seen someone with such natural piloting skills. But then again...I'm partial. When she was younger she was always in the holodeck, hanging out in the shuttle bays, begging me to take her on shuttle trips, and making friends with the every pilot she could.
"It became obvious that there was no stopping her so I made sure she learned from the best."
"Right now my children can't seem to stop fighting with each other," Hunt joked. "Perhaps as they hit the teen years, the maturity factor will kick in."
Daegan laughed. "Don't count on it. Oh, on some official business. Fortunately nothing to do with any potentially plague ridden planets; I'm sure you saw the request from Ops to move computer systems positions from Engineering to Operations? What do you think?"
"Any particular reason why Ops wants to take that on?"
"D'Sai made a good case that routine maintenance of various systems, to include the computers rightly fell under the definition of ship operations. while power, propulsion, ship's infrastructure, repair, etc. rightfully belong to engineering. Thinking back over the years I have to admit I have seen a migration of Operations duties to Engineering."
Lifting his tea, "What do you think?"
Hunt took a brief moment to think the question over. "Now that I think about it. It probably should fall under operations. The task itself falls under the very goal of the Operations Department."
"Even with the case he made I was thinking why rock the boat, but then I recalled a rumor about the two Engineers that's making the rounds."
Immediately, Jerome raised a curious eyebrow. "What rumors might those be?"
"That the Chief was involved with one of his engineers. If true that will need to be addressed, not that either of us hasn't had to deal with that before. But I'm actually anticipating more push back on the shifting of duties out if Engineering than dealing with any rumor."
"Engineering might welcome taking the task of their hands."
"I doubt it. Most engineers I've know are very possessive of what they feel is theirs."
"Unless they feel the job shouldn't be theirs to begin with."
Daegan shook his head. "That's unlikely, but we'll just have to see. Let's meet first thing tomorrow and them we can have them report and see how things go."
"Aye Sir."
Daegan stood having finished off his tea, and after recycling it in the replicator he looked back to Jerome. "Well, I'm going to call it a day...got plans with the wife. Speaking of plans, let's put something together, say a date night. I'm sure the ladies would enjoy that. What do you think?"
Standing up from his seat as well, Jerome smiled at the idea. "A night with other adults away from the children. Talon would definitely love that idea."
"Perfect. I will talk with Jules and we will set a date. Good night.
"Good night."
