Mission:
Sole Survivor
Location: USS Valkyrie
Timeline: MD 13 - 0845. (Prior to Sole Survivor)
Daegan sat in the observation lounge look out the portals, over the bow of his ship, composing his thoughts. His coffee and fruit had remained untouched as the events over the last few days were replayed over and over. Had he missed something…had there been any indications that had slipped his notice.
The frustrating thing is that he could find nothing… Things had definitely not gone the way he had hoped his new command would have gone but he was the Captain. He could show any chink in his armor especially now.
Rising he left his food and now cold coffee behind, passing through the partition and back to his office. Sitting, he tapped the surface of this desk to begin recording.
“Captain’s log, stardate 77020.61
“After a series of events, which I will address shortly, the Valkyrie has returned to it’s original course to begin our explorations of the beta quadrant, and should be entering unexplored space by the end of the day.
“The ship has performed superbly as has her crew….even with the few bumps we’ve encountered along the way.
“Crew and an addition runabout were picked at Starbase 152 without issue. Following our departure from the starbase we encountered an unexpected rendezvous with the Klingon vessel Ralnath. It seemed that Lord, and former Starfleet Admiral, Da`nal of the House of Varal wanted to give his son and his crewmates a celebratory send off on their deep space assignment. With the Valkyrie being ahead of shedule and not wish to offend, we accepted the invitation, though our security chief did resign and return to Klingon space with our host.”
He pause momentarily , tapping out a few additional commands to classify the next section of his log.
“Lieutenant Maguire’s death was ruled a homicide and the examination found, what Dr. Cussen believes to be, Changling cells in the wound.
“The presences of a changling was confirmed with the finding of the remains of Lt. Ramsey on SB 152. It would seem the Lieutenant was killed, replaced and then came aboard during our stopover. For what purpose remains unknown. Blood screenings and phaser sweeps of the ship have found nothing. It is possible that the Changling managed to get off the ship during Lt. Morloth’s departure and I have notified Lord Da`nal as a precaution.
“If the Founders are once again infiltrating the Alpha Quadrant, they could be anyone or anywhere. As such I have task both my engineering and operations personnel to examine ever inch of the Valkyrie for any signs of sabotage. Regardless of the Changling’s intent, I will not allow paranoia or suspicion to undermine my crew. We will forge ahead and continue to explore the unknown with determination and resolve."
Ending is log he left his desk and strode confidently out onto the bridge. "XO, what's our status?"
"Everything is running smoothly with zero complications," Hunt answered. "We have teams conducting those examinations as instructed. "They report that they should be complete within the next four hours."
Settling into his command chair. "Excellent. What to say we get down to what we were sent out here to do?"
"Sounds real good to me Sir."
Giving him a sharp nod he turned his gaze to the main viewer, "Let's do this."
