Mission: A New Beginning
Location: Shuttle Atlantis/Utopia Planitia
Timeline: Current

Lieutenant Liam O’Riley sat aboard the shuttle Atlantis on his way to an interview aboard the USS Valkyrie stationed at Utopia Planitia Shipyards getting ready for its maiden voyage. He was a little nervous and excited all at the same time having to be interviewed for Chief Engineer; not that he didn’t have enough experience. This was a new type of ship employing a QSD which he only had knowledge of in theory so he understood the need to be interviewed for the position. Now he would hopefully get to be hands on and turn his theory classes into reality.

As the hours rolled on by Liam’s thoughts went back to his teen years and the days of learning and working in his father’s shuttle repair shop. Little did his father know at the time what he would set in motion for his oldest son. A smile came across Liam’s face as he thought how proud his father would be if he knew of his chance at a new assignment; something that Liam intended to rectify once he settled into his new home.

Other thoughts went through his mind as he reviewed his prior assignments feeling they had led up to this time and place. Suddenly his mind was snapped back to reality as he heard a voice.

“Lieutenant we’re coming up on transporter range for the shipyards if you’d like to head for our transporter pads” the Pilot informed him.

Liam stood, straightened his uniform and grabbed his duffel, then proceeded to the requested location on the shuttle waiting patiently.

Minutes later “Lieutenant all set if you are” the Pilot stated while turning looking at his passenger “Good luck with your interview Lieutenant.”

Liam smiled “Thank you for the well wishes as well as the ride. I’m ready as I ever will be” he replied with a smile.

“Energizing now” then Lieutenant O’Riley disappeared in of stream of blue light.

Materializing at the shipyards, Liam looked around and saw an information station. Walking over with a smile "Excuse me Lieutenant, could you please direct me to the USS Valkyrie" he inquired.

Looking up from his work and seeing Liam's collar "Yes Lieutenant, the Valkyrie is at docking arm nine. You can take the lift over there to your left to the ship" he replied in a good natured tone.

"Thank you Sir for your help" Liam answered then turned and made his way to the lift "Docking arm nine" he requested then waited to arrive.

Minutes later the lift stopped and the doors swooshed open as Liam exited then headed for the gangway. Seeing security he stopped and handed the Ensign his padd "I'm Lieutenant Liam O'Riley. I have an interview with the Captain shortly" he stated.

Looking over the padd then checking his own the Ensign looked up "Yes Lieutenant, you're expected. There's a lift just inside the ship to take you to the Bridge on deck 2, Sir" he stated.

"Thank you for your assistance Ensign" Liam replied then turned and entered the ship making his way to the lift "Bridge deck 2" came the request while thinking to himself "That's different. I've never been on a ship where the Bridge wasn't on deck one." Moments later the lift stopped and the doors swooshed open. Liam stood momentarily taking a deep breathe "Here we go" then exited the lift.
