Mission:
A New Beginning
Location: Bridge & Captain's Ready Room
Lieutenant Urushi Yaotome stepped off the transporter pad of the USS Valkyrie. A duffle bag was over her shoulder and she took a deep breath of the ships air. The entire ship had that 'new car smell'. After handing her luggage to the crewman waiting at the door, she had to maintain the appointment with her new Captain. She was going to miss the Phoenix, but all good things must come to an end. Now, she was here on this new state of the art starship as its new Chief Science Officer.
The turbolift ride to the bridge was uneventful. As she walked out she couldn't help but notice the updated consoles, ship systems and how the bridge looked so shiny and new. She smiled as she made her way confidently towards the door to the ready room. The Trill stopped for a brief moment to ensure that everything was in place, her hair was tied up properly, and her uniform was presentable. Then she reached out and pressed the chime.
Just making it to the bridge in time Sizia ran over to Urushi. "URUSHI!!" Grabbing her former crewmate and and co-mentor in a hug. But quickly corrected herself as she released her, "I mean Lieutenant Yaotome."
"Woah..." Urushi said completely caught off guard. "Hi." She said softly with a smile. "I see you got transferred here too then?"
"Sure did. You missed Lauren, she popped in on me while on leave while on her way to the Saratoga." Stepping back, swiping her hand over the top of her uniform. "So how does the teal look?" Smiling as she showing off her new designation. "Passed enough classes to qualify. Still go a ways to go though."
The door to the ready room had opened at his command and Daegan could see the pair chatting, knowing the pair had served together it was understandable, but there was a ship to get ready. "I know you two probably want to catch up but there is a lot to do to get the ship ready to launch."
"Eek..." Urushi exclaimed as she turned to face the Captain. 'Some first impression!' she thought to herself. "Sorry Captain. Lieutenant Urushi Yaotome reporting aboard... I'm sorry for the distraction."
Sizia grimaced as Urushi spoke, following apologies of her own. "Sorry Sir, that was all my fault."
Waving the Lieutenant in, "All is forgiven...this time."
Sizia had side stepped her shipmate to deliver the padd in her hand, placing it on the Captain's desk. As she turned to leave she was professional, yet you could still hear her joy at seeing Yaotome. "I will see you later Lieutenant. Captain"
Daegan grinned slightly, "Has she always been like that?"
"Pretty much yeah," Urushi said with a small sigh. "Bundle of what I call 'bouncy bouncy' energy."
Daegan nodded with a grin. "Well at least she's been putting that energy to good use. She had the whole launch prep, cargo transfer, crew transfer, interview, and dock master scheduling mess organized for me in less than an hour. I've never met someone so skilled at organization that wasn't either a Zakdorn, or Vulcan and was also so... outgoing."
It was at that moment that Urushi only noticed that the Captain was a Trill. "Excuse me sir... but... joined or un-joined?"
"Joined. I'm the 5th host for the Baas symbiot. I read from your record that you were joined a few years ago yourself under critical circumstances as well. That couldn't have been an easy transition."
"No sir, it was not. But I've found that Leon helped me ground myself and think clearly." Urushi replied with a smile.
"Well despite what the symbiosis commission might say...even with the training it's still quite a shock to the host and takes some time to get things incorporated. You think it was a shock dealing with one additional lifetimes worth of memories, try four lifetimes. I too had to rely on my symbiote for help from time to time until things got settled so don't think it was anything lacking on your part. But that was what three years ago?
"My wife, now she is unjoined."
Urushi smiled. "I can sort of relate," she said. "Anyways Captain. I suppose you want me to officially report in correct?"
Returning her smile with a grin. "Well technically you did that just a little bit ago." Offer her his hand, "Glad to finally meet you face to face."
"Same Captain," Urushi replied. "I am looking forward to seeing what this new ship can do."
Daegan nodded, "It's probably a safe bet that everyone shares that sentiment." Gesturing for her to follow, "Please, come in, have a seat. I won't keep you long since you would probably like to freshen up after your trip to Utopia and take a look at the facilities you'll be overseeing. Definitely will be quite a change from your previous assignments."
Urushi nodded and followed him into the ready room. Once inside she stood in front of the desk as the door shut softly behind her.
There was a brief silence has he had expected some comment, but now matter. "I assume you have familiarized yourself with the various area. Anything new for you, or that holds a particular interest.?"
"I've looked over the specifications and layout of the science department yes," Urushi replied. "However I have yet to actually go and take a look around. I've only been on board a matter of minutes sir." she explained to him with a smile. "I thought it would be best to report in first before conducting any official duties."
"Well since you already got the job, I won't keep you and I can let you get settled in and check everything out. There's a lot more to to the Valkyrie than on a Prometheus class ship. But before you go let's make this official...Computer, senior officer appointment. Lieutenant Urushi Yaotome is hear by designated Chief Science Officer of the USS Valkyrie. Authorization Baas, Gamma 91735 Echo."
"Acknowledged. All Science authorizations are assigned the Lieutenant Urushi Yaotome."
Urushi nodded. "Thank you Captain... There is... one more thing you should be aware of..." she added nervously.
Twisting his head questioningly, "And that would be?"
"Well, as a Trill yourself you'll understand this better." Urushi said. "The Leon symbiote I carry was a Starfleet Captain before he joined with me. So I know more than I should about... certain things..."
Daegan nodded slightly as he lifted th padd that had been used for records. "I know. There was also a, Captain's eyes only, notation that your previous Commanding officer went over that situation with you. Since you carry the memories of a Starfleet Captain you understand the need to safeguard that information. I don't think we need to redo what has already been addressed do you?"
"No sir. I only mention it as a matter of courtesy." Urushi replied.
"And I do appreciate that, but I won't keep you. I'm sure you want to get settled and checkout the facilities and people within your department." He add with a grin, "Do you want me to find something for one particularly excitable Petty Officer or do you think you can handle her on your own?"
"I think I can handle her," Urushi said with a smile.
Daegan returned her smile with a grin, "Good. Well, I won't keep you any longer. Welcome aboard."
Urushi gave him a respectful nod before turning and leaving the ready room
