Mission:
What was Lost is Found
Location: XO's office & Ready Room
Timeline: MD 6 - 0800 (Prior to Answers & Questions)
Adam was going over the training Rosters of the security, checking on who had come aboard the Valkyrie. Something just wasn't setting well with him. This included the armaments that Rogers had spoken about acquiring or had acquired. These were certainly looking like something that a Marine would be having in the arsenal of the Valkyrie. Granted these could help deal with the monstrosities they would be facing.
The question that stood out in his mind, has Rogers gone through proper channels to get those weapons? Has he even spoken about to the Captain and the XO about getting the armaments? And also where did this fire team come from? Did they come with Rogers? Were they from the same unit when Rogers was with the Marines? Adam felt he needed to get confirmation.
He arrived at the XO's office and rang the chime. While he waited, Adam looked back down at the PADD which held his questions.
Commander Hunt has combing through the reports of the away mission. Somewhere in all this data was a solution. But could they find it sooner than later. But he wondered if anyone else arrived at this world before them and spread it to other places. Suddenly Jerome found his focus broken by the chime of his door. "Come on in."
Taggart entered, the broad shouldered red head holding onto his padd. "Thank you sir. I've got some things I need to go over with you, for security. Our new Chief of Security had told me of plans he was wanting to do, and I would like to confirm if he'd spoken to you and the captain about his ideas and his requests. He was speaking to me about getting Gauss weapons, and other weapons which would make it to where the ship would have to be reinforced in order to get training with the gauss rifles. And these would be classified as archaic weapons."
The First Officer raised an eyebrow. "He hasn't brought that to my attention."
"I see, also there has been evidence of a rapid response team with marine backgrounds, and I don't know if they had come onboard with Lieutenant Rogers, if they are from his days of being a marine. I don't know anything about them. I don't know if they had been approved by you or the Captain. I had found this out when I was going over the roster of security. Yes there have been changes ever since-the loss of others. I do plan on doing some investigation on these new members of the security team."
"An investigation," Hunt replied raising a curious eyebrow. "Sounds like you have a lot more concerns." The Commander then folded his arms. "Let's hear those concerns."
"What I am concerned is will Rogers be utilizing just those for rapid response and neglecting the rest of security. Its not like you could call it nepotism but, did he serve with them before joining the Valkyrie? And I feel there needs to be some balance maintained. And have they been thoroughly vetted? After all, who knows who they truly are. Have they been tested to see if they truly are who they say they are. And the same could be said for Rogers." Adam was concerned but also he was just irritated to no end about Rogers.
"Now I'm going to need for you elaborate further regarding Rogers and his people being tested."
Adam looked at Commander Hunt. "Have they been tested whether they are a changeling in disguise? After what had happened earlier. And call me paranoid, there is a reason for my suggesting this. Just don't want anything to slip past us again. Who knows what sort of mayhem that could happen."
He gave a frustrated huff. "So my worries as to Rogers is as follows. Are he and his group of people human or are they changelings in disguise. 2. The weapons that he is planning on bringing in, the gauss weapons and his wanting training to be done on the ship. Has he gotten permission. Though from your previous comment, it appears that he hasn 't spoken to you or the Captain."
Jerome stared at Adam briefly before responding. "I will definitely address this with him and the Captain as well. Tell me. does the Captain wish for the crew to be regularly tested for Changelings?"
"Sir, why don't we go see the Captain and give him the report that I've mentioned to you. Shall we?" Adam rising up from his seat.
"Let's see the Captain shall we."
[Captain's Ready Room]
The chime rang and the door opened revealing both Taggart and Hunter.
"Sir sorry to disturb you but I've got some concerns." Taggart began.
Looking up Daegan saw the security officer that had been passed over for Chief of Security and his XO. He had wondered if there would be any issues between Rogers & Taggart but is it made it past the XO there had to be something more. "Come in, sit. What seems to be the issue?"
"I am trying to cross t's and dot i's to make certain things are up to date. I came to the XO to find out if our new chief of security has spoken to you both as to having gauss guns brought upon the ship, and to have the men to train with them. There is also what appears to have a personal fireteam. I still want to see if they had served with Lieutenant Rogers. And another concern is, have we tested our people to see if we might have another changeling mole?"
The previous death was making Taggart even more cautious.
Daegan leaned back as the barrage of issues hit him. "Okay... Well first the Changeling issue. As you know the transporters are programmed to spot Changeling, plus everyone member of the crew was tested by blood screenings after Commander Maguire's death. So we can put that issue to rest."
Taking a slow breath. "Now, you're saying that Lieutenant Rogers has created a special team within Security and is wanting special weapons created?"
Adam nodded towards Baas, as to the transporters being programmed to pick them out. But-why didn't it pick out the one who took the XO's place? he thought to himself.
"From what I have ascertained, there is a team that had come on board with him. None of our security personnel have been asked to be a part of it. And the weapons that he had spoken to me about, were Gauss weapons. I just-" his words faded away evidently frustrated.
"I do agree that he should have brought the formation of specialized team to the Captain or myself," Jerome admitted.
Daegan agreed with XO's assessment. "Agreed. He should have at least informed the XO and by extension myself on the formation of any specialized team. Personnel assignment and the deployment of ships assets are a command decision. If we don't know we have a specialized team...well. We will address that.
"As to the weapons. You said he had spoken to you about that. What did he say...exactly?"
Taggart drew in a breath through his nose, Rogers had thrown a lot out at Adam.
He keyed in his PADD to where he had made memos.
"Gauss/phaser rifles specs were sent to the replicator program. They're pretty much a nightmare on bulkheads as well. Counterproductive when outside of atmo. Holodeck parameters will need to be reset so that they align better with the operation. Not much of a kick to them since their magnetic, but enough that newbies feel it and it tends to throw off aim. This is the main reason for the four hours of training. If Captain approves them, we'll begin replicating the weapons and issue them prior to transport. SWAT/S will be included in every transport group and will be the security in charge until we eradicate the threat."
He looked up from the PADD. "That is basically it Captain and him assigning a swat team, he said there was some guy name Brownie that he was sending to set up details. I believe he is basically one of the new people that had come aboard."
The Commander looked over to Baas. "It appears that we have quite a bit to discuss with the security chief."
Daegan was nodding, "Agreed."
Returning his gaze to Taggart, "Permission for the Gauss guns is denied. Having spoken with Aseek about what his people has face and the weaponry he described there is no need to back track to a projectile weapon. If and when we engage the Defiled again all phaser are to be set to maximum to vaporize whatever we run into."
Adam nodded, "Aye Captain. I will make a note as to the Gauss Weapons being denied but I will leave that for you and the XO to let Rogers know about them being denied." Taggart making a note on his PADD. "Thank you both for hearing me out on this."
Daegan glance to Jerome before looking back to Taggart with a raised brow at Taggart's 'assignment'. "So nice of you to let us have hand in this issue Lieutenant."
Adam stared at Baas and Jerome, blinking for a moment wondering why the captain made his remark. Then it hit him. "Sirs! I am sorry, I had thought you were having me to deliver the message to Rogers as to permission being denied, where the Gauss weapons were concerned. And my statement was more of wanting you to deliver that denial. My apologies sirs." Right now he was wishing the floor would open up and swallow him.
Daegan chuckled as he waved it off, deciding a honest slip of the tongue was nothing to come down on...as long as it doesn't happen again. "No harm done...this time. Anyway so no wires get crossed we will speak to him on both issues."
A relieved expression and smile appeared on Adam's face. "Thank you sirs." Feeling a weight just melt away from him."I will be certain to endeavor not be so-abrupt as to my comment."
"Dismissed." Daegan smiled and shook his head as he watched the young officer leave. After the door had closed he looked over to Jerome. "Oh to be a junior officer..."
"Makes you wonder if we were anything like that," Jerome chuckled.
Daegan added as they both chuckled, "Naahhhh...could have happened now could it."
