Mission:
What was Lost is Found
Location: Counselor's office
Timeline: MD 4 - Prior to "Discoveries"
Niami had been going over the records of those who had been seeing the previous counselor. There was some catching up to do, one of them being Petty Officer 2nd Class Sizia Sh'velihr.
Tapping on her combadge, Niami sent a call to her.
=^=Petty Officer Sh'velihr, please come to my office, this is Counselor Troga.=^= and now she waited.
While she waited for Sizia to arrive, Niami fixed herself some tea.
Sizia was in the bridge's breakroom, which had basically become her work space. While on the Phoenix she had actually had a place of her own near the Captain's ready room which was very convenient. Setting another padd aside she tapped her badge, "I'll be there shortly. Just have to drop off a few reports to the Captain."
=^=I'll be here=^= Niami responding then closed up her combadge.
Picking up the padds she headed back out and across the bridge to the Captain's ready room. The doors opened at her approach and she sat the padds on the Captain's desk and left, head to the nearest lift. "Deck 11."
The tea made, Niami sipped at it as she thought about those who had gone down to that planet. Just how does one help them cope with that sort of experience? Of seeing their own comrades killed in a horrific manner.
The doors opened to the lift and Sizia stepped out thinking, ~Here we go again...~. Entering medical she made her way past reception waving as she went by. Knocking on the door to the counselor's office.
Niami walked over and opened the door standing to one side to let Sizia in.
"Thank you for coming." Niami walking over to a chair to have a seat. " I wanted to see how you are doing after that away mission?"
Walking in she plopped down on her usual spot on the couch, having gone through this all before. Well it's a lot to go through in a short time that's for sure. Seem that the more I focus on the Captain's schedule, my studies, or helping in the science labs, the more I can keep my mind off...", taking a deep breath, "...other things. "
Niami gave a nod, moving over to have a seat upon the other chair.
"Much has happened on this ship, and it is understandable to keep your mind from dwelling upon the matter. Which isn't a bad thing to do."
Niami had done the same thing when she was lost in another universe then coming back to the Prime Universe.
"I have viewed some of the reports of the sessions you have had with the previous counselor. I also hope to not rehash over what you'd already had spoken to the counselor about. Though if you wish to speak about any details or feelings I am all ears. " Niami giving a nod.
Having gone through everything before and her thoughts flowed naturally so there was no concern about meeting a full Betazoid. "Well you know that this all started with the disappearance of a dear friend and mentor. Then Commander Maguire was killed. Now with the whole away team disaster..." Recalling the members of the security team being crushed, then fighting and scrambling back to the surface only to have the Sec Chief killed and mutated right in front of them. "...how do senior officers like the Captain do it?"
"They tend to compartmentalize things, choosing to deal with what matters and is considered the most important to deal with first. At times, it piles up and someone needs to just knock the wall down and say. hey time to take care of that closet and clear it out." Niami replied candidly.
She nodded slowly, "So do I just create a holo-program full of breakables to vent?"
"That would actually work and sounds like a plan, as long as I can participate." Niami's gaze rather direct. "I know of a woman who had done just that, played music as she did so. It can be rather carthartic. For something that can't be controlled, at least unleashing that anger, hurt and grief, stress, into breaking something in a controlled environment. It does help. Some people utilize cleaning something but, that doesn't always fill the need, that desire to just confront something and transfer the emotions towards it in a destructive manner. That works."
Sizia's head bobbed side ti side a few times. "I could see that working as a relief valve, but as soon as I walk off the holodeck the issues are still there in my face. My friend is still missing, my XO was still murdered, and I still watched my shipmates crushed or mutated..."
"And how do you wish to process this for yourself? I can make suggestions." Niami responded quietly. "That pain will always be with you, some say it will dim with time, as you process the loss. You could let it haunt you, allow yourself to close yourself up to where you do not wish to associate with anyone. Or you make a point to remember them, and have a day of remembrance. And also allow yourself to grieve, if only for that one day and the next day continue on. In different cultures they hold a day or remembrance. To where they talk about the happy days they had with the person. The times they had helped the person out. How they inspired them to do better. A celebration of their lives."
"Well I've been do that, at least for Lt. L'vor ever since she disappeared, by focusing on my science studies but I don't wanna forget about myself either. Thing is when I put the padd down and try to something for myself I...I feel guilty."
"That is termed survivor's guilt. And it is a natural thing to feel that way. You play the what if's game which can lead into a spiral that isn't fun to step into. You coming to see me is a good step forward in dealing with survivor's guilt. Another way is to get together with friends, and do something for yourself and they can do the same. Something along the line of self-care. Having someone with you to start the journey towards facing the survivor's guilt is important."
"Tell me about your friend and what she was like? And would she encourage you, to do things for yourself, fun things that you enjoyed doing?" Niami's voice taking on soothing tones.
She took a deep breath, "She was my mentor. If it wasn't for her I'd still be in a red uniform and be nothing but a yeoman. She would most definitely encourage me. Now she's missing and if it wasn't for Captain Montoya and Captain Bass, Starfleet would have classified her as a deserter."
"I am glad that they were able to put her as missing in action, instead of a deserter. Having something like that placed upon your record isn't pleasant. Follow her encouragement then, do things for yourself. This will honor her and also will help you as well. I don't think she would want you to dwindle away into nothing, would she?" a kind smile wafting across Niami's lips.
She knew for sure she would have wanted that, but not in any manner the counselor would suspect. "I know she wouldn't."
"That is good to hear. Be kind to yourself. And I do know that it can be difficult in doing such in moments of grief and hardship. Just make sure though that you do." Niami stated. She shifted in her seat, just slightly. "If you ever feel the need to talk don't hesitate to do so. We can actually talk in the holodeck as well. For a change of scenery."
Sizia stood and smoothing out her uniform she looked over to the counselor. "That would nice. A less clinical environment would be more relaxing. Thank you Counselor."
"You are welcome, and in truth I would like a change of scenery as well when talking." Niami looking around at her office.
