[Main Engineering]

After a rather unexpected and eye opening meeting with command, the Chief and Thomas's next order of business was to inform the entire engineering department of the impending departmental moves and responsibilities.

Walking up to the elevated platform Liam cleared his throat and in a loud voice "Could I have everyone's attention please" as the area became very quiet suddenly with all eyes turning to the Chief "Lieutenant Thomas and I have just returned from a meeting with the Captain and XO; there'll be some changes to the department coming very soon I would wish to share with you all" then Liam paused a moment looking for the right words then continued "First and foremost what I'm about to share with you all has nothing to do with your work, which has been exemplary I might add, so thank you for all your hard work. Soon all software related computer items, as well as anything holographic, will be falling under the Operations department. However anything hardware wise, the computer cores, neural gel bio-packs, and isolinear chips will still be the responsibility of engineering. The next change I'll let Lieutenant Thomas explain.....Lieutenant" O'Riley concluded.

"Ok, since the computer software side is going to operations it has been decided that the specialist's team, including myself, will also be under the operations department. However as I understand it we will be overlapping with engineering in some areas" Thomas explained with a smile.

"Soon I hope to meet with the Chief of Operations to iron out any details" then Liam paused "Now that we've dropped a bombshell on all of you, are there're any questions that we can try and answer for you."

Looking around the area O'Riley saw a hand go up "Yes Lieutenant."

"Chief checking and maintaining the gel packs and ioslinear chips has been a standard routine since I can remember; but the whole idea maintaining the computer cores.....well let's just say I seriously doubt any of us are really qualified for that...no offense to anyone here."

"Good question. I agree with you and when I meet with operations that will be one of the issues I'll be bringing up. Hopefully Lieutenant D'Sai will agree and let the Specialists continue to take care of the computer cores while we continue maintaining the other hardware items" O'Riley replied "Other questions?" as he scanned the department "Ensign Moro."

" The work stations for the specialists are very computer specific so if we physically move to operations....how is that going to work" the Ensign inquired with some concern.

Stevie spoke up "If operations have some vacant stations then I can transfer our stations from here to there; but they'll have to be dedicated as computer stations only" she explained while Liam was adding the question to his PaDD.

"I'm hoping for a seamless transition to operations.....so If there's no more questions you are free to go back to work" O'Riley stated with a smile.

After everyone went back to work Stevie turned to Liam "So Lieutenant O'Riley, I thought that went pretty well" she commented with a grin.

"Yes I thought so as well; now if my meeting goes as well with Lieutenant D'Sai I'll be a happy Chief" he replied with a smirk "I'll be in my office should anyone need me; I want to write up a memo and send it to the beta and gamma shift leads to share with their people."

"Ok and I have some computer related things I need to attend to" then Stevie paused and lowered her voice "I'll let you take me out to dinner tonight if you don't have any other plans."

"Yes, I'd like that. I'll swing by about eighteen hundred and pick you up" Liam replied with a smile as he received a smile and nod from Stevie.

[Chief's Office]

Liam walked in then grabbed a water before sitting to write up his memo which read as follows:


To: Lieutenant Marcy Domas - Beta Lead & Lieutenant Mark Banna - Gamma Lead.

Priority: High

Content: I had a meeting with the Captain and XO today; there'll be some changes to the department coming very soon I wish to share with you all. First and foremost what I'm about to share with you all has nothing to do with your work, which has been exemplary I might add, so thank all your staff for their hard work. Soon all software related computer items, as well as anything holographic, will be falling under the Operations department. However anything hardware wise, the computer cores, neural gel bio-packs, and isolinear chips will still be the responsibility of engineering. Also in the move to operations the entire specialists staff will be moving there as well. I'll be meeting with operations soon and hopefully Lieutenant D'Sai will agree and let the Specialists continue to take care of the computer cores while we continue maintaining the other hardware items. I'll update you after the meeting with operations.

After sending off the memos to his shift leads, Liam finally had a chance to relax a few moments to start processing not only his meeting with command but also the changes to his department. Knowing operation's track record from many years ago, he hoped and trusted that Captain Bass and Commander Hunt had made the right call and that it wasn't more about his relationship with Stevie; I guess only time would tell.
