| Personal History | Terry Allen Baldwin was born in St. Louis Missouri and spent his early years in the Lebonan, MO area before his parents resettled on a small plot of land near Richland and the reopened and repurposed Fort Lenardwood as a infantry training and resupply depot for the reconstituted Federation Marine Corps. Terry remained an only child to his father, Derrick, and mother, Lucille. Derrick worked in the Weather Control Systems, Midwest department as maintenance and Lucille stayed home to care for their child until he was school aged then returned to part time work as a substitute teacher and tutor. Terry was an average student, but very active. He took to chores around their small property easily, often making the chores into games for him and his friends. To date he retains the title of King of Chicken Wranglers among his childhood friend group. His parents, despite their best desires, had to admit to himself that Terry was only an average student. Even as he grew and passed into junior high and high school, they realized the only real attraction school had for their son was the sports programs. They worried about Terry’s future, wanting more for their son than their meager, but happy, existence. Dreams of better jobs, however, seemed to go unfulfilled as Terry didn’t seem to have any desire for anything more than sports. And even though he stood out, and his high school teams made state and national championships his four years, the hope for scouts and further interest in professional leagues never arrived. Nor did college offers. Which, Terry and his parents admitted suited him just fine. He admitted to his parents through his senior year that he didn’t really want to go to college. Finding a job around home was going to be enough for him. His mother suspected that his relationship with a local girl might have a lot to do with that. It was with concern and confusion then, when Terry came home with the enlistment contract for the Marines. His mother was against it, and his father didn’t fully support the idea of his son enlisting. He tried to sway his son into Starfleet at least. The only one that made her feelings known right away was his high school sweetheart. She told him that if he enlisted, she would not be “long distance girlfriend” and wouldn’t be “waiting for him”. Even knowing it was the end of his relationship, Terry signed the papers and enlisted in the Marine Corps. He was just finishing advanced infantry school when he first met Malinda Domnir, herself just getting out of high school and trying to work her way into college to obtain a degree in education. Terry was smitten right away. Malinda not so much. But, eventually Terry wore her down and she agreed to a first date. Then, a couple weeks later, a second. Terry kept working until Malinda realized they’d been dating for nearly a year. Then two. The second year passed with minimal contact as Terry was shipped off to various assignments. Then Terry was moved to a specialized training squad where he met Kawolski who immediately became his best friend and partner in mischief. At the end of the training and their transfer back to their new squad, Malinda discovered she was pregnant. She refused Terry’s proposal of marriage at first, not wanting to be seen as “trapping him” into marriage with a baby since both weren’t keen on getting married anytime soon. Terry, however, wore her down once more and when Malinda was five months pregnant, they were married by a base chaplain with their parents, Terry’s squad and a few others in attendance. Now they were married, Terry had the option to bring Malinda along with him. During Malinda’s labor, however, the medical staff finally had enough of the ‘uncles’ in the vicinity and had Terry’s squad removed, a move for which Malinda was secretly grateful. After hours of labor, Malinda gave birth to her son who they named Jeremiah Derrick Baldwin. Months later, Terry and his squad were transferred to a long range project, Malinda and Jeremy brought with them. During this excursion, Malinda met Weaver Boothe, the betrothed fiance of Hunter Kawolski and, despite Weaver’s unease in the wider world beyond her colony, took to Jeremy quickly. She became a second caregiver to the baby and allowed Malinda to go to work for ship services in order to help bolster her acceptance into Starfleet University so she could resume her work for a degree, only now she’s changed her focus from education to psychology, intending to become a counselor specializing in Starfleet/Marine personnel. She moved again to the Valkyrie with Terry, his squad and Weaver. Terry, meanwhile, was once again showing his leadership qualities and was a defacto squad leader. The test program that lead them to the long term project proved more successful than the project. Terry and his squad were to head up the second phase of the Special Weapons and Tactics/Security program and transfered to the Valkyrie to help bolster the ships combat complement for its missions into unexplored space. |
